Upgrading
from AlarmTraq version 5.3(MS Access) to AlarmTraq version 7.2(SQL)
This procedure will use your existing AlarmTraq.mdb database file to
populate the new SQL database to work with version 7.2
Follow the steps below to upgrade version 5.3 to version 7.2. If you are
currently running any version higher than 5.2 click
here.
Step 1: If you are planning to use an existing SQL server
in your organization you can skip to step 4, otherwise you can download and
install
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express as well as
Microsoft
SQL Server Management Studio 2008 Express from the Microsoft website.
Step 2: Backup your existing AlarmTraq 5.3 database file (AlarmTraq.mdb) to a safe location (desktop or temporary directory).
Step 3: Download and install AlarmTraq version 7.2 from the
downloads section of the
Support Site
located at http://www.reillytele.com/AlarmTraq/supportsite/.
Step 4: Before running AlarmTraq 7.2 for the first time we
need to create the database in SQL Server. Open SQL Server Management Studio and
click on File > Open > File. Select the appropriate script file to match your
version of SQL Server from the AlarmTraq Tools folder (\Program
Files\AlarmTraq\Tools) and click Open.

Step 5: Verify the path located on lines 5 and 7 match your
current installation of SQL Server and edit if needed.
Step 6: On the toolbar click Execute.
after a few seconds a blank AlarmTraq database is created in SQL.
Step 7: Open AlarmTraq by clicking on the new shortcut on
your desktop. If this is the first time starting AlarmTraq you will be prompted
for the SQL Server to use.

Step 8: Click the
Test Connection button to verify your access to the
AlarmTraq database.

Step 9:
If the test is successful click OK
and OK to write the connection string to the registry. AlarmTraq will use this
connection string when accessing the database.

Step 10: Click Yes to locate your previously backed copy of the
AlarmTraq.mdb file from step 2.

After locating your MS Access database file, click
Open.

Step 12: Click on the Convert All Tables
button or optionally you can select the individual tables to be imported to SQL.
Step 13: Once all tables have been imported to SQL, close the
import tool and start AlarmTraq 7.2 as normal.
